Bikash Bhattacharya

Bikash Bhattacharjee’s art works were inspired by his early childhood and depicted the life of the average middle class Bengali – their aspirations, superstitions, hypocrisy and corruption. His preferred mediums were oils, acrylics, watercolours, conte and collage. His realist style depicted rooftops and alleys of the Calcutta in which he lived and portraits of people from different walks of life. He is known the world over for works which are haunting, juxtaposing the real with the unreal and portraying with great intensity the grim realities of urban, middle class Calcutta.
